The Loon count will take place again this year!!! We can use more volunteers.

Annual Audubon Loon Count

The Loon count will take place this year

Maine Audubon’s annual statewide

Loon Count will be held on

Saturday, July 16th from 7-7:30 AM.

A group of dedicated volunteers will

be either out on the lake in non-

motorized watercraft or diligently

watching for loons from shore.

When a loon is spotted, the survey

area map is marked with the exact

time and location, along with the

direction of the loon’s movement, if

possible. This helps achieve fairly

accurate results that are then

tabulated and sent to Maine

Audubon to determine the overall

health of Maine’s loon population,

as well as the health and

productivity of our own loons here

on Green Lake.

As you know, it’s

extremely helpful to keep all

motorized boats off the lake during

this half hour time period; your

cooperation is so appreciated!
