Annual Audubon Loon Count

2024 Loon Count

The 2024 Maine Audubon Loon Count was held on July 20

                                  from 7-7:30 AM

As you know, it’s extremely helpful to keep all motorized boats

off the lake during this half hour time period;

Your cooperation is so appreciated!

About the Green Lake Loon Count 2024

Green Lake

Donna Megquier shared the results of the Maine Audubon Loon Count, which was held

on July 20th. Visibility was excellent and the results were quite high, at 39 adults and 2 chicks.

This was significantly higher than last year, when the weather was foggy and the lake rough,

making it difficult to see more than 26 adults (0 chicks). Julie reminded the Board that she

had seen a 3rd chick up by Jenkins Beach earlier this season; unfortunately it wasn’t out and

about on the 20th. Wake boats were discussed, as well as boats speeding through the Narrows

or along the shore, and it was suggested that we put a picture of a swamped nest in the fall newsletter.
